If you’ve ever read or seen more than a handful of American Western novels and/or movies, there is a good chance you’ve come across Louis L’Amour.
He wrote well over a dozen novels about a fictional family, the Sacketts, that spanned hundreds of years, as well as several novels about their cousins.
In 1981, he wrote a letter to Ruth Rawlings, detailing how he came up with the name, and that he’d actually done some genealogy research concerning the real-life Sacketts (he was not a Sackett himself). The letter is hosted by the Sackett Family Association
