“Why use software for geneaology?”

A good (but rambling) discussion cropped up on
soc.genealogy.computing
– a usenet group devoted to computers and genealogy (usenet is not moderated, so you might see some harsh language and off-topic posts). This is off of Google’s usenet servers.

It quickly turned into a discussion of software, but a few interesting points were raised, and I know I’m not the only one who has relatives who are still using pen & paper and a good pair of walking shoes.

soc.genealogy.computing as well as some of the other soc.genealogy newsgroups do turn up quite a bit of information about various methods people use, as well as information you might have missed. The archives go back well over a decade, so you could literally browse through thousands, 10s of thousands, or more likely 100s of thousands of posts.
