A good article at the Townsend Times (West Townsend, Massachusetts), about their efforts to celebrate their town’s history (275 years and going strong).
The project is called “Townsend Over Time”, and is using the recollections of past residents to tell the town’s history, and is a joint venture between Priscilla Kipp, the Townsend Historical Society and the Townsend Times.
It’s an interesting read, and I liked this quote from Thomas Fuller, quoted in History of the Town of Townsend 1676-1876, by Ithamar Sawtelle
History is a velvet study, a recreation work. What a pitie it is to see a proper gentleman to have such a crick in his neck that he cannot look backward! History maketh a young man to be old; privileging him with the experience of age, without either the infirmities or inconveniences thereof. Yea, it not only maketh things past, present; but enableth one to make a rational conjecture of things to come
