Scottish Pupils Given Genealogy Project

The Scotsman is reporting that students at seven schools across Scotland are being assigned a genealogy project that will give them “unrivalled access” to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, the official government genealogy website.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk contains more than 46 million records, and is one of the premier genealogy websites created by any government. The article is calling this a “pilot scheme” leading one to believe that this will be expanded in the future.

This should increase interest in genealogy in Scotland (although it’s already popular there to begin with), and to do so at an early age is wonderful.
